Translating as 'Eight Rivers', Ocho Rios started life as a sleepy little fishing village. Famous for its lively nightclubs and sweeping sandy beach, today, this once-tiny hamlet is one of Jamaica's busiest tourist destinations. While it may be a busy urban centre, just a few minutes from the centre of the town, you'll find lush hillsides and the island's famous tropical forests. A popular attraction for nature lovers is Fern Gully, a remarkable three-mile glade that's home to over 300 species of ferns. On a hot day, the cool shade of the Gully is a welcome change from that blissful Caribbean heat. Once you've completed your stroll, the town's many restaurants await, filled with spicy local dishes and some delicious but seriously potent rum punches.
With a superb 180° view of the ocean and the tranquil coastline, Buttonwood Reef encourages guests to spend as much of their time outdoors as possible. The effortless transition from interior to exterior is the key to this villa's charm, utilising the views and turning them into living works of art. The open-plan living space is serene, opening out onto the pool and garden. Throughout, you'll discover unique art and bespoke pieces from Jamaican artists such as Pinto Pottery, Mara Made, Dougall, Touch by VLS and Dready Art. The dining table seats up to 18 guests and is made from a single piece of rare Tamarind. The kitchen is filled with state-of-the-art appliances - the ideal spot for any discerning chef to ply their skills. The eight bedrooms are all unique, with individual colour schemes and bespoke artwork. Seven of the eight bedrooms have king-size beds, while the eighth has two full-size beds. All have ensuite facilities, and four have private balconies.
Outside, an infinity-edge pool with a Baja ledge, uplighting and sun shelves dominates the patio. An adjacent hot tub is just the spot to watch the spectacular night sky in all its glory, a glass of wine in hand and the gentle sound of the ocean in the background. Staff, including a chef, butler, housekeeping, laundress and a pool and water sports attendant, take care of every need - no matter how small. Buttonwood Reef is, quite simply, divine Caribbean living at its very best.
