Grace Bay, the heart of the island

Long Bay Beach, the kiteboarding centre

Three miles long and with just the right conditions for kiteboarding, Long Bay Beach is perfect for water sports lovers. This tropical beach, complete with swaying palm trees and a quirky direction signpost, is a popular spot for families too. Dazzling white sand leads to turquoise water, and the beach is lined with exclusive villas. However, the size of the beach means there are no crowds even during peak season. Divers with a wreck-diving certificate will love the challenge of exploring the freighter La Famille Express two miles offshore, wrecked here in 2003.

Sapodilla Bay, great for families

Sitting on the south coasts of Providenciales is a sweep of pure white sand lapped by shallow, turquoise water that’s ideal for families. This safe beach is a short drive from the major resorts, yet far enough to be peaceful and relatively crowd-free even in the height of the season. Exclusive villas line the beach and surrounding cliffs, and the sheltered position of Sapodilla Bay means the water is warmer than in other locations. Divers and snorkellers can see schools of colourful fish, and further out to sea, you’ll glimpse stingrays and eagle rays.

Chalk Sound, a natural wonder

Located on the southwest side of Providenciales, Chalk Sound is a spectacular peninsula that forms part of a National Park and separates the lagoon from the ocean. This narrow strip of land is home to some of the island’s most exclusive villas, surrounded by the lagoon’s blue waters on one side and the lush greenery of the Caicos Banks on the other. Best time to go

  • During spring: from kite festivals to model boat racing, there are events galore in the spring. With warm, dry weather and gentle winds, it’s the perfect time to visit the island. The beaches are almost empty and ocean visibility is excellent for diving and snorkelling. What’s more, April is one of the sunniest months of the year on the islands.

  • During summer: don’t worry too much about the summer being the start of the ‘wet’ season – those downpours are short-lived and followed immediately by bright sunshine. The temperature rises into the low 80s°F (around 26°C).

  • During autumn: September is the hottest month of the year with temperatures in the high 80s°F. You may have nibbled on conch already, and autumn is the chance to see just how important this marine delicacy is to the people of the island with the Conch festival. From Calypso to conch chowder, it’s a chance for you to feel like a true islander.

  • During winter: the dry season starts in December, but January is the coldest month of the year at around 80°F. Well, not exactly ‘cold’, but certainly a little cooler than usual so pack a light sweater for the evenings. It’s peak season, so make sure you ask your dedicated concierge to make restaurant bookings in plenty of time. If you’re here over Christmas, check out the Boxing day Maskanoo Parade which has its roots back in the colonial era and embraces the African heritage of many of the islanders.

How to get there

By plane

Flights arrive at Providenciales International Airport (PLS) on the main island of Providenciales. Regular flights from Miami land here, and take just one hour and 43 minutes. Your dedicated concierge will be happy to arrange VIP transfers for you so that you can arrive at your Turks and Caicos vacation rental in style.

By private jet

Private jets also fly into Providenciales International Airport, as well as at the smaller (and utterly charming) provincial airport of Grand Turks JAGs McCartney International Airport. Your dedicated concierge can arrange for VIP transfers from the airport, or to have your own hire vehicle waiting for you on arrival. Helicopter transfers may also be available.

By boat

Turks and Caicos is popular with sailors, so if you have your own yacht you can dock at marinas in Providenciales, Provo, and on the south side of the island at Sapodilla Bay. You will need to clear customs and immigration on arrival. Customs documentation must be arranged in advance. Talk to your dedicated concierge if you have any questions about booking a berth at one of the marinas.

Local Tips

  • Don't forget to pack a mosquito repellent and a coral-safe sunscreen - in some cases you will not be allowed to do some activities if you are not using coral-safe sunscreen.
  • Long distances between activities can be strenuous on foot due to the heat, we advise hiring a private driver or renting a car.
  • We recommend that you bring water shoes with you as there may be rocks in the water depending on where on the coast you are.
